The Real Bread Campaign is seeking a volunteer* to support its project officer.
About the Campaign
Part of the charity Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming, and funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food programme and the Sheepdrove Trust, the Real Bread Campaign works to help bring Real Bread back to the hearts of our local communities. Encouraging people to eat more locally-produced additive-free loaves, the Campaign finds ways of making bread better for us, better for our communities and better for the planet.
An outline of the volunteer’s role
Starting in January 2012, hopefully you will be able to volunteer for three months or more. Hours are flexible but ideally you will be able to volunteer for at least one full day a week. Other than the occasional event, you will be based at Sustain’s office in central London, close to Angel Tube station.
The volunteer will support the project officer in work including:
- Helping to put Real Bread on the Menu of more food access / community food projects (e.g. food co-operatives, community cafes and lunch clubs) and public sector institutions (e.g. schools, nurseries, hospitals and care homes)
- The Lessons in Loaf and Bake Your Lawn schemes that encourage Real Bread making to be taught in more schools
- Organising and running training and networking events
- Researching and writing briefing documents in the Campaign’s drive for an Honest Crust Act
- Securing further funding for the Campaign
- General administration for the Campaign’s national membership network, The Real Bread Loaf Mark, Knead to Know, and the Real Bread Finder
Desirable skills and interests
- An interest in, and sympathy for, the aims of the Campaign
- The ability to work independently
- Good writing and research skills with keen attention to detail
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work with colleagues, Campaign members, the media and members of the public
- Skills or experience relevant (or transferrable) to any of the tasks outlined above
A passion for Real Bread and aptitude for (or at least a tolerance of) bad bread puns won’t hurt, either…
