9. Weighing and measuring through cooking

You will need:
Teaspoon, table spoons, measuring jugs, scales

a. Recipes often use the measures teaspoons (tsp) and tablespoons (tbsp). 1 tsp = 5ml and
1 tbsp = 15ml. Use the information to work out the missing numbers;

3 tsp = ................ ml
4 tbsp = ................ ml
................ tbsp = 600 ml
................ tsp = 0.25 l

Use a measuring jug to see how accurate these conversions are.

b. Recipes often give metric and imperial equivalents. 1 lb is approximately 450g and 1 oz is approximately 25g (16 oz = 1 lb). Use the information to work out the following problems;

3 oz is approximately ................ g
2.5 lb is approximately ................ g
3 kg is approximately ................ oz
125g is approximately ................oz

Use scales and a selection of imperial weights to check how accurate these equivalent values are.
