ICT: 1a, 1b, 1c

In order to plan and implement an effective Grab 5! campaign in a school, information about children’s eating habits, healthy eating knowledge and food preferences will need to be collected and analysed.

The children could be asked to:

  • Define the purpose of a survey and decide what data is required.
  • Design different types of questionnaires and survey sheets to be used to collect information.
  • Use the information to create a database.
  • Present the data using different types of graphs.
  • Use the data to answer questions, identify trends or make predictions.

Other uses of a database might include:

  • Keeping a record of the money collected by a tuck shop.
  • Keeping a record of the items purchased in the tuck shop.
  • Keeping a record of the height of seedlings grown by the children.
  • Keeping a record of changes in the number of children selecting salad at school meals.
