4. Comparing prices
Back

Geography: 1b, 1c
PSHE: 3a, 5h

Ask the children to research information for a leaflet explaining about the ways in which the cost of fresh fruit and vegetables varies according to the time of year. They could produce a table showing when certain items are in season and are likely to be most affordable (see Science activity 4 for seasons of UK fruit and vegetables).

Ask the children to collect information about the prices of fruits and vegetables available in different shops, supermarkets, markets, farmers markets and home delivery schemes.

Ask them to plot the location of the cheapest produce on a local map.

Ask them to decide which factors other than price are important to consider when buying food. Ask them to decide which produce is the best buy.
