16. Writing frames

Teacher's notes

The following writing frames can be used to support different styles of writing.

  • Frame 1: Explanation, e.g. how to prepare and make your favourite type of meal.
  • Frame 2: Description, e.g. an item of fruit or vegetable.
  • Frame 3: Making comparisons, e.g. compare tinned and frozen peas, cooked and raw carrots, homegrown and supermarket potatoes, organic and non-organic celery, granny smith and braeburn apples, different designs of tin openers, different types of fruit juice.
  • Frame 4: Procedures, e.g. how to make a fruit salad.
  • Frame 5: Persuasive writing, e.g. the best sort of snack to eat is.....
