Teacher's notes

Rewards can be used to encourage children to eat more fruit and vegetables. Contact the Grab 5! team to find out what items they have that may be suitable for a rewards scheme, e.g. pens, pencils, frizbees, rulers, stickers and books. There is also a photocopiable certificate at the back of this pack.

The ‘learn to like’ Challenge

PSHE: 3a, 4a and 5d

Ask the children to choose a fruit or vegetable that they have never tried or that they don't like and explain that their challenge is to try and learn to like it.

Ask for ideas of how this might be achieved;

  • you might try to eat a small amount each day.
  • you might include the vegetable in a soup, on a pizza or in a sandwich.
  • you might include the fruit as part of a fruit salad or as a garnish to another pudding.
  • you might find and use a celebrity chef’s recipe which includes that fruit or vegetable.

Ask the children to keep a diary of their experiences.

Ask them to write a piece of work entitled 'How I learned to like ..........' e.g cabbage, broccoli, mango.
