A. Nine steps to Grab 5!

Back

Step 8. Produce a newsletter

Termly newsletters and email updates are useful because they let everyone know:

  • What practical support with activities you, as coordinator, may be able to provide, e.g. running tasting or smoothie sessions, helping set up a fruit tuck shop, running a playground market, or helping with a launch event.
  • What materials you will be providing or can provide on request, e.g, posters, a blender, Grab 5! packs, banners, stickers, reward items.
  • What support other members of the steering group and other local contacts are able to provide.
  • What other schools are doing, what has worked well and why.
  • What new support is available (including contact details).
  • A diary of related events.

See section G for an example of a newsletter that was produced during the Grab 5! pilot project. You can also use newsletters to reach parents, as many schools do.

Schools can also produce an internal newsletter like the one below. This is a good way of letting staff know what activities, materials and support is available to them.

Visit the Grab 5! website, www.grab5.com, or contact the Grab 5! team (020 7837 1228) if you would like to use the Grab 5! logos, graphics, letter heads and memo paper in your project.
