The Grab 5! Action Pack
Back

Everything in this Action Pack could be done by a single primary school. However, it may be easier to do some things (such as accept a free delivery of 5,000 apples!) if you work together with other schools and other organisations in the area. If your school is one of several in the area adopting Grab 5! you are probably being supported by a local coordinator and probably already have links with the other schools. This is the ideal scenario. If, however, you are the only school in your area doing Grab 5!, meeting with other schools may still be a useful way to share ideas and experiences on promoting healthy eating. This might be something you do from the start, or you may want to spread the word after your tuck shop, breakfast club, or healthy cafeteria is running successfully.

As well as schools, useful contacts may include:

  • Local community organisations and community centres
  • Community dieticians and health promotion teams
  • The local Primary Care Trust or NHS Trust
  • The local Education Business Partnership,
  • Local businesses, producers and retailers (contact them either directly or through Business in the Community)
  • The local Healthy Schools Programme co-ordinator
  • The School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme area coordinator
