Having gone through the initial stages of Grab 5! (setting up
a SNAG, assessing where your school is at, what the priorities are
and what needs to be done) you will be ready to start putting together
an action plan. Here are some ideas of activities that you may want
to consider.
Maybe you are already doing some of these ideas, but maybe there
are one or two that you would like to try. Remember not to think
of them in isolation but as part of a whole school approach to improving
food and nutrition and promoting fruit and vegetables. How can the
different activities be linked to support each other? Some are for
curriculum work, some are for changes to school catering and food
policy, others are fun ways to promote and celebrate healthy eating
in your school. One example of how the ideas could be linked is,
if you are starting a fruit tuck shop why not also arrange for a
class trip to a market or shop and launch the tuck shop with a big
event like apple day.
The ideal framework into which all these food related activities
would fit is a food policy. Refer to section 2 in this Action Pack
for more information on whole school food policies and the Grab
5! publication, 'A model school food policy'.

Each ideas bank is split into sections: a section outlining what
the idea is, a section suggesting steps to take to get the idea
up and running, a 'we did it' section that gives details of how
some schools in the Grab 5! pilot project did the activity, and
a section of contacts for further information and supporting materials.
In most cases suggestions have also been made for how each idea
may be linked with classroom work. The Grab 5! Curriculum Pack suggests
further links.
