Winter 2007-08

Avian flu
In November Jeanette attended a meeting on bird flu, focusing both on the links between the global scale of intensive poultry farming and the creation and spread of the virus, and on the threat to human health if the virus continues to mutate.  Although poorly attended, a number of serious issues were raised, and the presentation by Michael Gregor, from the USA’s Humane Society, was excellent.  It is not yet clear how this work will be taken forward, but we will maintain a watching brief.
