Food for the cities
In 2008, the world’s urban population outnumbered its rural population for the first time in history. By 2030, 60 percent of the world’s population is expected to live in cities many of whom will be facing poverty. The paper underlines the reality above and stresses the importance of urban agriculture for dealing with such problems and contributing to food security, fighting unemployment, income genetration and building resilient cities. The paper is concluding with some policy recommendations.
